Lodestar Partners with IBM Watson Health to Evaluate Emerging Partnerships and Partnership Models Across the Healthcare and Life Sciences Landscape
Lodestar has recently extended its four-year partnership with IBM Watson Health by conducting an assessment of emerging partnerships and partnership models across the healthcare/life sciences landscape, both in the U.S. and internationally.
Lodestar CEO Dr. Tom Nelson commented, “New partnerships, alliances, networks, ecosystems – you name it! – are already being announced daily across healthcare. Still, we forecast exponential growth in these collaborative relationships in the years ahead.” He added, “Partnerships are created for a variety of offensive and defensive strategic purposes, but each one of them, carefully examined, tells a story that provides important competitive intelligence”.
Lodestar analysts reviewed over 400 “partnerships” announced in 2017-18 and ultimately selected 38 for A 2019 Portfolio of Noteworthy Partnerships and Partnership Models across Healthcare and the Life Sciences. Those selected were of the most relevance and interest to Watson Health as well as most illustrative of innovative trends and developments in partnership models. Particular emphasis was placed on new market entrants, including technology powerhouses such as Amazon, Microsoft, and Apple, and emerging payer and patient care delivery models.
Nelson commented, “Thirty-eight specimen partnerships may not seem like a large sample, but collectively the portfolio revealed several dozen clear and actionable patterns, themes, and trends – all of which will help inform Watson Health’s thinking regarding its own partnership objectives and strategies”.
